If you haven’t been out to the beach on a Sunday afternoon yet, take advantage of the perfect weather and visit one of the locals’ favorites.
There is always a crowd and great live music at the Paradise Bar and Grill. Come by bike or boat and dance in the sand or just watch the show.
We ran into Buddy Rogers, Joe Denmon, Hub Stacey, Pete andAngela Moore, Glen Windham, Phillip Morris, Ricky and Marta Ray, Robin and Patty Roberts, Dave Clark and his daughter,Susan, Tina Sarra, Sherry Gallagher, Kim Bell, Mike Bailey andAshley Paulus, Carlette Howell, Wanda Radcliffe, and Karen Sindell.
Owner Fred Simmons was there and plans to have an extra special Sunday next week in honor of his 60th birthday.
The party starts at 11 a.m. and will feature bands and a silent auction to benefit The Autism Society. No cover charge, but donations will gladly be accepted.
Homer Jolly is assisting with arrangements and also will be celebrating his birthday (No. 55).

In town for a visit
Friends gathered at the Sabine Sandbar on Pensacola Beach to celebrate the visit of Pensacola native Jerry Dumestre and his wife,Janet, who are in town from Salt Lake City.
Jerry grew up here and stays in touch with many of the people who turned out on the perfect Father’s Day afternoon to reconnect with their friend.
Among the crowd were Kenny Morgan, Martha Flood, Rick andChristy Emmanuel, Eddie and Cynthia Henderson, Rick Little, Rhonda Barkley, Steve and Tracy Preisser, Michelle West, andJoe Hammons and Kimi Smith.
Evers' supporters gather
Members and guests of the McGuire’s Irish Politicians Club turned out in force to support state Sen. Greg Evers, who is running for re-election. Based on the size of the crowd, you would never know that he has only a write-in candidate to face.
The crowd included Senate President-designate Don Gaetz, State Rep. Clay Ingram, Escambia County Property Appraiser Chris Jones, City Councilman Sam Hall, ECUA members Lois Bensonand Dale Perkins, Santa Rosa Property Appraiser Greg Brown, Jim Reeves, Dick Appleyard, Jules Kariher, Barry Beroset, Pam Childers, Lumon May, Jim Cronley, Mike Burns, Ron and Jan Miller, David Bear, Pete and Angela Moore, Gil Bennett, Charles Baxley, Jim Waite, Donnie McMahon, Bill Hunt, Pam Caddell, Dave Hoxeng, and Jeff Lewis.
Pensacola State College recognition
Taking part in an evening event on the deck at Nick’s Boat House recently were members of the first class of the Pensacola State College President’s Leadership Institute.
Enjoying the weather, the food and the ceremonies were Anthea Amos, Thom Botsford, Monique Collins, Frances Duncan, Jennifer Ehrhardt, Thor Garber, Rob Gregg, Samantha Hill, Michelle Horton, Brenda Kelly, Linda Lambert,Tom Leonard, Angela McGhee, Ruth McKinon, Jennifer Ponson, Kathryn Quillen, Sandy Ray, Christa Ruber, Damarcus Smith, Blaine Wall and Frances Yeo.
Pensacola State College President Ed Meadows presented each member with a certificate marking their completion of the year-long institute. The purpose of the PLI was to add to the the faculty and staff members’ understanding of both leadership and college procedures.
Assisting were Pat Crews, Nan James and Larry Bracken.
Building more than just houses
Congratulations to David Peaden and the Home Builders Association of West Florida for winning a state award for Service to Seniors. This organization built the new facility at the Council on Aging, donating countless hours and resources, to better serve the senior day-care program. They will be honored at an awards program in Orlando in late August.
House warming for downtown residents
Teresa Wiseman and her son, Reid, are downtown’s newest residents and celebrated their move by opening their cottage to friends and colleagues last Friday. Teresa’s masterful decorating, inside and out, has transformed the small house into a beautiful and serene garden home. Stopping by to tour were Clark Thompson, Don Neal, Darby Keniff, Eric Milstead, Joe Hammons and Kimi Smith, Tom Bell and Wendy McKee, Deb Wrighton Wex, Lyn Markham Gentry, Liz Bosarge, and LeeAnne Skewes.
