Florida Professional Firefighters Announce Endorsement of Greg Evers
Firefighters Announce Support of Evers for Senate District 2

Baker, Fla. -- Florida Professional Firefighters, Inc., the largest association of professional firefighters and emergency medical services personnel in the state, today announced its support and endorsement of Greg Evers in the campaign for Senate District 2.  Senate District 2, which includes Holmes and Washington, and parts of Bay, Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton Counties, is being vacated by term-limited Senator Durrell Peaden, Jr. from Crestview.

"We believe that Greg Evers will honorably serve the citizens of Florida, and the interests of the men and women employed in the fire and emergency medical services, who have made the protection of life and property their life's work," said Bob Carver, president of the Florida Professional Firefighters.

"We are proud to support Greg Evers for Senate," said 2008 Florida Professional Firefighter of the Year Shayne Stewart, an Okaloosa firefighter who serves as the 8th district vice president of the Florida Professional Firefighters.  "As a firefighter serving Northwest Florida, I've seen firsthand how dedicated Greg is to the safety and well-being of his neighbors and those living in his district, and I am confident in his leadership."

"I am honored that the Firefighters have endorsed me in my race for Senate District 2," said Evers.  "I believe that the firefighters in my district and around the State of Florida are integral to public safety. When elected, I will advocate on their behalf and make certain that their voice is heard and that they receive the resources they need to protect our communities and respond to emergencies."

The Florida Professional Firefighters, Inc. is the Florida affiliate of the International Association of Firefighters.  The Florida Professional Firefighters is comprised of 140 local affiliates and councils, with a membership of 22,500 firefighters and emergency medical services personnel, working in 175 departments within the various state, county, municipal and special district governments across Florida.

Evers currently represents Florida House District 1, which includes parts of Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties.  He is a farmer and small businessman who was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2001 and was subsequently re-elected.  Evers has put his experience in agriculture and business to good use in the Florida Legislature and is proud of his legislative accomplishments on behalf of Florida's critical agriculture industry, economic development, job creation and Second Amendment issues.  Most recently, he sponsored and passed legislation enabling Florida farmers to transport their farm equipment from field to field without the burden of additional government permits or fees; legislation creating tax incentives that enabled the Jay Oil Field to reopen, restoring numerous Northwest Florida jobs; and legislation protecting the right of law-abiding citizens in Florida to have legal firearms secured in their automobiles in public parking lots.
